The black stork ("Red Book" Series)


In compliance with Law no. 548 -XIII dated July 21, 1995 on the National Bank of Moldova, the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the National Bank of Moldova "on the minting of jubilee and commemorative coins" no. 1726 dated December 30, 2002 and according to the Decision of the Council of Administration of the National Bank of Moldova no. 198 dated August 7, 2003, the National Bank of Moldova issued, starting with August 20, 2003, two commemorative coins of "Red Book" series as a means of payment and for numismatic purpose:

• Black stork (CICONIA NIGRA)
• European mink (MUSTELA LUTREOLA)

 A circular border stands out on the edge of both the obverse and the reverse.
Turning the coins against the vertical axis at an angle of 180 degrees sets the image on the obverse and the reverse of the coins.

Description:

The coins obverse is the same and includes:

  • In the central part of the coin - the Coats of Arms of the Republic of Moldova;
  • The figure "2003" is engraved in the upper part;
  • In the bottom part - the wording "10 LEI";
  • The inscription "REPUBLICA MOLDOVA" in block letters is placed in the upper part of the obverse following the coin circumference.

Coins reverse:

The Black Stork coin:

  • The images of a Black Stork on a rock and a flying stork are placed in the central part;
  • The inscriptions: "CARTEA ROŞIE, COCOSTÎRC NEGRU, CICONIA NIGRA" (the Latin name) in block letters follow the coin circumference.

The European Mink coin:

  • In the central part, on a vegetal background of a lakeside - the image of an European mink carrying a fish in its paw;
  • The inscriptions "CARTEA ROŞIE, NURCA EUROPEANĂ, MUSTELA LUTREOLA" (the Latin name) in block letters follow the coin circumference.
