In compliance with Law no. 548 -XIII dated July 21, 1995 on the National Bank of Moldova, the Decree of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova no. 1012 - XIII dated October 23, 1996 "on the issuing of the jubilee coin dedicated to the 5th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova" and according to the Decision of the Council of Administration of the National Bank of Moldova no. 49 dated November 8, 1996, the National Bank of Moldova issued, starting with November 13, 1996, the commemorative coin dedicated to the 5th Anniversary of the Proclamation of the Independence of the Republic of Moldova as a means of payment and for numismatic purpose.

A circular border stands out on the edge of both the obverse and the reverse.
Turning the coin against the horizontal axis at an angle of 180 degrees sets the image on the obverse and the reverse of the coin.   

Coin description:

Obverse: The Coat of Arms of the Republic of Moldova is placed in the central part; The wording "REPUBLICA MOLDOVA" is placed in the superior part of the obverse following the coin circumference; An oak branch is placed under the Coat of Arms.

Reverse: The image of a stork with a bunch of grapes is placed in the central part on the background of a sun; The coin nominal value "100 LEI " is placed lower; The image of a popular ornament and under it the issuance year "1996" are placed in the bottom part; The inscription "PROCLAMAREA INDEPENDENŢEI" in block letters and the year "1991" are placed in the upper part following the coin circumference.
